Best Bacon

Best Bacon in New Zealand

A Christchurch butchery has claimed New Zealand's title for making the country's  best bacon in 2012.

Ellersmere Butchery's sugar-cured middle bacon has taken the Bacon of the Year title, beating 53 other butcheries in the national contest.

It's the fifth successive year a Canterbury butchery has won the supreme award.

Makers compete in five bacon categories -  Middle, Dry-Cured Middle, Shoulder, Streaky and Middle-Eye.

The 100% New Zealand Bacon & Ham Competition celebrates the country's finest cured pork products to help customers identify and appreciate local, sustainable bacon and ham, and support local pork producers.
